[edit] ARRL Field Day 2009
This year's Field Day event was a smashing success! We set up operations at Kelly Walsh High School on the practice football field shortly after our usual Saturday breakfast gathering. We operated as 2A station with a GOTA station to show the public how things work.
Given our very public location versus years past, we had quite a few folks stop by to see what we were doing, and I think everyone left our site with something different. We had an on-site antenna building workshop as we assembled our 160m dipole antenna that was ultimately set up between two goal posts at opposite end of the field, and this antenna worked much better than expected, tuning 80 and 40m in addition to its intended 160m! Also in use at the site were a Cushcraft R7000 vertical multi-band antenna brought in by Brian, W6NJ and a homebrew 20m Moxon antenna built by Brad, KC7YRA.
We were also fortunate enough to get a visit from a Casper City Councilman who brought a proclamation from Mayor Kenyne Schlager declaring Amateur Radio week in Casper!
The food was great, the camaraderie was even better, and we had a great time working the bands, making contacts and enjoying the open air with friends and family. A huge THANK YOU to everyone that helped make this Field Day so successful, and we'll be looking forward to next year. Stay tuned for details!
